A foundation school for children aged between 7 and 11 years and serving a wide area of Milton Keynes presented another challenge which Hazlemere’s Commercial Team overcame with their customary expertise. The existing windows had structural Glue-lam timber roof joists projecting through the window line above the existing mullions. Before the replacement Sapa Dualframe aluminium casement window products could be installed, these were required to be cut back behind the line of the new windows – a process which impacted on the building’s structural integrity.
A structural engineer produced drawings and calculations for the design of a replacement detail to support the roof without disrupting the line of windows. This involved new structural timbers, stripping back and renewal of roof tiles, battens, fascias and cement verges – work that was well within the expertise of Hazlemere installers. All the commercial replacement aluminium windows, and replacement commercial aluminium doors were manufactured by Hazlemere Commercial at their factory in High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. The new windows, doors and associated work was completed during term time with minimal disruption to the children and staff.
