The project was far from straight-forward, particularly after Hazlemere Commercial’s installers had exposed the existing structure during construction to discover a concrete encased steel, whose existence was not possible to identify on survey. However, thanks to having the trust of a very understanding client, Hazlemere Commercial were able to overcome the difficulties thanks to a lot of hard graft and initiative based on over 30 years’ experience and expertise designing, manufacturing and fitting aluminium double glazed window, door and conservatory products.
This glass extension initially involved the fitting of a large new RSJ following the removal of two brick piers, two brick planters and the existing overhanging porch and lobby ceiling. The flat roof above the existing lobby was removed to allow an new double glazed Ultraframe Veranda Roof to fit. When cutting back the existing roof, Hazlemere Commercial’s installers made allowances for creating a 90mm soffit to match the rest of the building, as the new Ultraframe roof was specially designed to fill in-between two existing soffits.
In addition to the Ultraframe aluminium powder coated roof, the other new matching bespoke aluminium fenestration products specified on this project were 100mm wide Hydro Sapa commercial STII double glazed aluminium entrance doors, Sapa commercial aluminium casement side lights, all of which were fitted with argon filled double glazed sealed units with Low “E” toughened safety glass with warm edge spacer bars. The sloping veranda roof glazing was fitted with Pilkington Activ-Clear self-cleaning glass to assist with ease of on-going maintenance.
Hazlemere Commercial then built an insulated floor screed to match the existing finished floor levels. Hazlemere also incorporated the rainwater outlet from the roof within the Veranda roof’s aluminium upright posts, leading to a more aesthetically pleasing, yet highly practical end result.
This substantial new entrance extension was completed in time for its official opening during Easter 2019. Hazlemere Commercial’s Marketing Director Mark Austin commented “It was a privilege to partner with Seer Green Baptist Church on this unique project, and especially pleasing to receive genuine gratitude from the Church leadership and members. We were honoured as a company to be invited to the opening ceremony and service for the new extension. When we later received a glowing testimonial from Seer Green Baptist Church Secretary Timothy Cox, for our products and quality of installation it made all the extra effort that was needed in order to fulfil the Church’s brief worthwhile.” (see below)
