In a first for the UK double glazing industry, global aluminium systems company Sapa Building Systems (also previously known to some as Monarch) has been awarded the brand new A+ Window Energy Rating (WER) for two aluminium triple glazed Dualframe Si products.
Sapa is the first UK aluminium systems company to be given the A+ WER by the British Fenestration Ratings Council (BFRC) for its aluminium triple glazed Dualframe Si casement and aluminium Dualframe tilt-before-turn windows. Both windows meet the required 10 KWh/(m2.yr) or more Energy Index using triple glazing, underlining Sapa’s prominence in developing the very best performing products.
When Window Energy Ratings were 1st launched 9 years ago, achieving the top ‘A’ rating was considered difficult. However, continued advances in technology have meant fenestration manufacturers have been able to design improved products that offer higher levels of energy efficiency and this has now become more common in the UK double glazing sector. In response to this, the BFRC has set the benchmark for excellence even higher with the new rating.
Giles Wilson, chairman of the BFRC, stated ‘The A+ rating allows the most technically advanced producers to benefit from the marketing opportunities derived from BFRC ratings and being among the first in the industry to offer ‘A+’ windows.”
The new rating will not only offer approved Sapa aluminium fabricators like Hazlemere Commercial more choice but will also help homeowners and commercial end users to reduce energy bills. Both aluminium windows, as part of the Dualframe Si range, offer a cost effective way to improve the energy performance of a building.
Paul Booth, chief designer at Sapa Building Systems states “Energy efficiency has always been at the forefront of our design process and we are constantly looking at ways to improve the products we offer. Many of our windows and doors already achieve an ‘A’ WER and the design team has been working hard over the last few weeks to put our Dualframe Si TBT and casement windows through the rigorous testing required to meet the new A+ rating. With any future tightening of the thermal performance criteria under the Building Regulations, we are now ideally placed to be able to meet this requirement.”
The Dualframe Si aluminium window ranges utilise advanced polyamide thermal break and weather sealing technology to provide high thermal performance without the need to resort to complex and costly sealed unit specifications.
