Littledown School & Haybrook College Case Study

When regular Hazlemere Commercial clients Ridge Architects needed to specify replacement windows for two specialist schools in Slough, Royal Berkshire, REHAU’s TOTAL70 profile provided the perfect solution. Kevin O’Neill Commercial Manager with REHAU worked closely with Approved REHAU suppliers and installers Hazlemere Commercial and the Ridges design team and Slough Borough Council, to ensure that the original Victorian façade was replicated, and  the functionality of the new REHAU windows worked for the current occupants.

Littledown School and Haybrook College special school provides ‘a safe and stimulating environment where children develop the skills which enable them to be included in their communities’ and is located in an attractive red brick building on Stoke Road. For many years it been served by traditional timber sash windows but these were dilapidated and in real need of replacement.

The project at Littledown Special School and Haybrook College, began in 2018, when the school identified a need to replace the current windows with a profile offering high performance, aesthetic suitability and value for money. Hazlemere Commercial, as an established REHAU window installer based nearby in High Wycombe in South Bucks, and operating across the South of England, was the logical choice to deliver the project.

Hazlemere Commercial decided to team up with REHAU on this large-scale installation of some 100 casement windows knowing the profiles would be up to the task. The REHAU TOTAL70 window system was selected for its sheer quality, compatibility, value for money, superb energy efficiency and aesthetics.

REHAU TOTAL70 polymer profile is well suited for projects involving original traditional timber frames due to the 70mm front to back depth, which allows for the replacement of 3” timber frames with less trimming up than over PVCU profiles. The profiles’ stylish design and finish were judged by the client to have the right look and feel for a sympathetic end result, in keeping with the rest of the school building.

The new double glazed PVCU windows are low-maintenance, containing a special compound with a smooth gloss finish, protecting against warp, rot the need for continual maintenance and repainting. Not only does this guarantee a pristine appearance, it also means lower costs of upkeep for Littledown School and Haybrook College.

The selection of REHAU TOTAL70 also delivered value for money for Littledown and Haybrook, with the cost outlay for the PVCU profiles much lower than had they decided to opt for timber or metal frames. Future energy costs will also be kept under control, thanks to the excellent thermally efficient properties provided by the new windows.

As Approved REHAU Installers, Hazlemere Commercial work in closely with REHAU to deliver the best possible solution for each client, who gets the benefit of not just having a long established double glazing installer with a track record stretching over 4 decades, but also the technical know who and input of European wide Systems House REHAU with their reputation for high quality German designed fenestration products.
