This project involved the construction of a new entrance lobby with a glazed roof to increase security and management of people access to the school (see picture below showing part of the glazed lobby roof). Lane End Primary School asked Buckinghamshire County Council to advise them which contractor they should use. Hazlemere Commercial were suggested, being on the County Council’s Approved List of Suppliers, as proven manufacturers and installers of bespoke aluminium glazing systems.
The project was completed on schedule during the 2008 Summer holidays before any pupils returned to School despite difficult ground conditions caused by an unusually high water table, exacerbated by unseasonably wet weather.
Hazlemere Commercial’s operatives fitted specialised drainage beneath the lobby concrete floor to allow the water, discovered underneath the existing school buildings during excavation works, to drain to land soakaways. These unexpected difficulties were overcome by Hazlemere’s Construction Department in conjunction with Wycombe District Council Building Control and Bucks County Council’s Principal Surveyor for the district’s Schools.
