The existing single glazed crittall steel windows were into punched hole openings, which were left in place throughout the building by Hazlemere, Commercial whilst the new Sapa aluminium Elegance 52ST curtain wall facade was manufactured and installed by them on the external faces of the large main block building. To enable the work to take place, the entire building had to be fully scaffolded first, work that was overseen by Hazlemere Commercial as main contractors.
The old steel framed windows were finally able to be removed once the new double glazed aluminium curtain wall was weather tight. Hazlemere Commercial also re-roofed the entire block with a new felt and insulation system. As Hazlemere Commercial were principle contractors on this very large total refurbishment and up-grading project, they also managed and co-ordinated installation of a new mechanical and electrics system (which included the fitting of a new air conditioning system). As part of the contract a new lighting conductor system was installed and solar photovoltaic panels were fitted on top of the new roof, and all the lift shafts were externally rendered and decorated .
The principle aluminium products used on the significant refurbishment project were Sapa Elegance 52ST aluminium curtain walling, Sapa Dualframe 75 SI aluminium double glazed casement windows and Sapa commercial aluminium ST entrance doors. This was not an easy project as the building remained fully occupied throughout, so the project took longer than had been planned, with effective completion in 2016.
