During the Spring of 2017, Hazlemere Commercial helped transform and upgrade the Head Offices of a major UK construction company. Working for Vibe Business Interiors, Hazlemere provided an outstanding level of service as it replaced every window in the building as part the thorough-going £1.4m renovation project, part of which was to increase the thermal efficiency of the building by the installation of thermally broken energy saving double glazed aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling.
Hazlemere Commercial manufactured and installed 153 aluminium casement windows, a large section of curtain walling and several doors. The company worked quickly and efficiently in challenging circumstances – the entire project had to be completed in just 16 weeks, and a clean and speedy installation was vital if all other phases of the refurbishment were to finish on time. As a consequence Hazlemere Commercial decided to submit this project as its entry into the G Awards for 2017 for the follwoing reasons:
In a short space of time – the whole refurbishment project had to be completed in just 16 weeks – Hazlemere removed approximately 150 windows and several doors from the existing building, then replaced them with high-performance Sapa alternatives manufactured in its own High Wycombe facility. The products were Sapa Dualframe 75 aluminium windows, two automatic Sapa Stormframe ST2 doors, and two Sapa Stormframe ST2 fire rated doors.
The company also installed a large area of Sapa Elegance 52 aluminium double-glazed curtain walling for the building’s front façade main entrance and reception area. All the 1st floor curtain walling and windows were installed using scaffolding to ensure a) the products were fitted securely and safely and b) the window fitters and site Project Manager were able to work in risk assessed environment, ensuring the safety of Hazlemere’s and Vibe Business Interiors staff whilst on site.
The result of having these highly efficient and secure modern grey powder coated aluminium fenestration products fitted also enhanced the aesthetic appearance of these Head Offices externally and internally, and has led to the creation of a much more pleasant working environment.
Exemplary health and safety performance
Hazlemere demonstrated its uncompromising commitment to health and safety throughout the installation process. It complied fully with CDM Regulations 2015, including by using an independent health and safety consultancy to help produce its construction phase health and safety plans. The company also produced a Risk and Method Statement for the project, including a comprehensive health and safety assessment.
Every member of Hazlemere Commercial’s staff who attended the site – including installers, surveyors, foremen and others – was Construction Skills Certification Scheme accredited, and all site supervisors were Site Management Safety Training Scheme-accredited. Hazlemere Commercial is both Exor and CHAS accredited.
A sustainable installation
Hazlemere Commercial takes its environmental responsibilities extremely seriously. Consequently Hazlemere are ISO 14001 accredited for Waste Management Disposal, so all the existing windows, doors and glass were placed in the appropriate specialist recycling skips. All products used in the installation were made in the company’s High Wycombe manufacturing facility, part-powered by upwards of 40 photovoltaic cells on the factory roof. Like all Sapa products, they were made of 50% recyclable aluminium. All paper, cardboard and paper packaging produced during the installation was recycled. All aluminium offcuts were sent off to be melted down to be reused, and all removed metal frames, spray tins and plastic cleaning bottles were taken away and processed by a specialist waste management company for recycling.
