John Mason School, or JMS, is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in Abingdon, that successfully applied for CIF Bid funding to replace many of the existing windows at the school with new aluminium ones. Established as an old grammar school in 1960, Berkshire Education Committee named JMS after sixteenth-century intellectual, diplomat and spy Sir John Mason, whose picture can be found hanging in the school hall. He was born in Abingdon, Oxfordshire and educated at the nearby Abingdon School.
The aluminium products chosen were white powder coated Sapa Dualframe 75 SI double glazed casement windows with trickle vents fitted within the outer-frame, most opening casements having SAA folding openers with a link bar. The high level aluminium opening windows had Teleflex winders fitted to them with wall mounted operators. All opening vents were fitted with stainless steel friction stays for longevity and reliable smooth operation.
Hazlemere also manufactured & installed a sloping aluminium rooflight fitted with white composite panels and a entrance screen with integral Sapa Stormforce ST commercial aluminium entrance doors, parts of which had to be fitted with manifestation in order to comply with current England and Wales Building Regulations. Hazlemere also fabricated and fitted white RAL 9910G powder coated Sapa Elegance 52 aluminium curtain walling.
At the School’s request, Hazlemere Commercial were able to pull one phase of the scheduled works forward by one week to enable the most disruptive part of the contract with Main Contractors Augur Contracts Ltd to be done outside of term time.
